Record what can be seen
The safest catalog language begins with observable features: yarn thickness, slubs, weave density, selvage, width, repairs, print edges and color variation.
Interpretation can then be added as a separate field with a confidence level. That makes later corrections possible without rewriting the object’s basic record.
Photography as evidence
Records should include full-cloth views, close details, selvage, reverse side, damage or repairs, and a scale reference. The goal is not only to sell a textile but to document it well enough to remain useful after sale.
