Identification notes
IMPORTANT SALE TERMS: This single Etsy listing offers a choice of four distinct vintage handwoven bands. Each selection A, B, C or D is ONE complete uncut length; Quantity 1 means one whole band, never a 50 cm cutting. The bands are not all four included in one purchase.
Option A — Indigo Geometric: approximately 250 × 0.7 cm (98.4 × 0.28 inches).
Option B — Dark Indigo Floral: approximately 200 × 0.7 cm (78.7 × 0.28 inches).
Option C — Blue Striped: approximately 298 × 0.6 cm (117.3 × 0.24 inches).
Option D — Cream & Indigo Dot: approximately 196 × 0.7 cm (77.2 × 0.28 inches).
Each band was woven independently with pre-dyed cotton yarn on a narrow-band loom. The motifs were made as part of the weave, not printed or embroidered onto the finished band.
Historically, narrow bands served as garment edging, apron and waist ties, head or hat bands, wrapping ties, decorative bag ties, and household textile borders. Contemporary uses include pouches, book covers, slow stitching, textile collage and decorative accent trims.
Each vintage band is unique in its exact colour, pattern and length. Household weaving produced natural differences in yarn, tension, width and pattern rhythm rather than factory-identical repeats.
For load-bearing bag straps, functional belts or other high-stress uses, reinforce with a modern backing or use the original woven band as decorative trim. The vintage bands have not been strength-tested.
Care: For collecting or dry display, washing is unnecessary. For projects that will be washed, test a hidden section first; wash gently and separately in cold water, avoiding bleach, prolonged soaking and tumble drying. Colour release may occur.

The Chengxin motif — small woven symbols of balance
The bands are related, in the owner’s folk-textile identification, to Chengxin Wen (秤心纹), an abstract motif inspired by the old Chinese weighing scale. In folk interpretation, a scale is associated with fairness, balance and honest measurement.
The traditional motif name is also connected in oral interpretation with wishes that things turn out as hoped, suggesting harmony and good fortune. This is an attributed cultural reading rather than an independently documented statement by the original weaver.
The four options express different handmade variations in small flowers, dots, linked blocks, geometric arrangements and blue stripes, revealing how a shared folk motif could vary between household makers.
Unlike printed blue-and-white resist textiles, every decoration visible here is formed by the weave of the narrow cotton band itself.
