Can you follow a flower back into the cloth?
The Shanghai flower cloth in this collection is catalogued as tiaohua: its small decorative threads belong to the woven structure, not a surface print. Read a single flower first, then follow the rhythm it makes across the grid.
In these Atlas records, picked or supplementary thread work describes how the small motifs sit within the cloth. The word tiaohua is used here in that local catalogue sense. The exact lifting mechanism, loom dimensions and number of operators still need a matched practitioner or loom record.
Object-level working attribution, based on the supplied Shanghai and Little Plum Blossom records. We do not generalise a large multi-person loom to every textile called tiaohua.
