Object condition
Good vintage reclaimed condition overall, with softened print edges, light fading and colour variation, old fold lines, raw edges, loose fibres and handwoven irregularities.
Identification notes
The floral, mountain and sun design is printed on the older handwoven cotton base rather than woven into the cloth.
The current listing is sold by one metre to preserve the scale of the large all-over motif; the full continuous piece is approximately 232 cm.
Peony imagery carries familiar associations of beauty, abundance and prosperity. The mountain-like and rising-sun forms are catalogued as visual interpretations from the surviving print rather than documented maker labels.
The cloth has been gently washed and retains visible old-cotton grain, slubs and a substantial but soft hand.
