What changes when the background becomes the pattern?

Flowers, creatures and domestic wishes, read through blue and white. This volume brings together the Atlas records catalogued as resist-printed cloth. Begin with the whole design, then notice the smaller marks that hold it together.

Our recorded examples describe a stencil-resist process: protected areas remain pale while the surrounding cloth takes colour. Look for dots, separated shapes and the balance of light and dark. Ground weave and printed decoration are recorded separately.

Based on the supplied textile records. The archive distinguishes pale-on-blue from blue-on-pale designs, but a photograph alone does not establish the complete workshop process or the dye chemistry.

The observation card aims for 2× the displayed image. If the source lacks enough pixels, magnification is limited; the frame can still help isolate a detail. Enlarging does not recover missing focus or texture.
