Small Marks

How little does a mark need to be to change the whole cloth?

Some patterns only become legible when you slow down. Tiny pale points, interrupted lines and changing yarn thickness can turn a seemingly simple field into an absorbing surface.

This is a visual reading group for checks and small woven marks, not a blanket classification as plain weave. Pepper-Eye and Meteor / Lightning retain their individual catalogue descriptions. A weave diagram will be needed before assigning a precise interlacement to every example.

Names and observations come from the existing Atlas records. Descriptive names are kept distinct from established symbolism; this volume does not supply a universal meaning for every dot or check.

The observation card aims for 2× the displayed image. If the source lacks enough pixels, magnification is limited; the frame can still help isolate a detail. Enlarging does not recover missing focus or texture.
